Mile 9696

We are early up this morning because we have a ferry to catch at 8:50 am, and it is the only one today.  So coffee is on the run and we leave Bruce Peninsula N.P. and head back to Rt-6 to make the short run to Tobermory, ON to get in line for the ferry boarding to South Baymouth, ON through the First Nation Lands / Islands of the Chippewas of Saugeen and Chipewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, the Wikwemikong, the M'Chigeeng, the Sheguiandah, Sheshegwaning, Aundeck Omni Kaning, and the Zhiibaahaasing.  We follow RT-6 on Manitoulin Island through the Anishinabek Nation to reach Rt-17 in Espanola, ON.  After a quick lunch we head West to Sault Ste. Marie, ON for our destination today.  We had visited this place in 2014 on our way back home from Alaska and I can say that between then and today not very much has changed in those 11 years.  So we won't spend any extra time here, and will continue West tomorrow again.

Staying in line, what else

"Indigenous people made huge contributions to this country.  The biggest is in sharing the land and resources.  People need to see that, understand that.  Indigenous people should be viewed as the founding peoples of this land."  -  Perry Bellegarde SOM, Canadian First Nations advocate and politician who served as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations from December 2014 to July 2021
