Mile 2477

After a night of rain we wake up with still rain falling on us, so it is only a quick coffee and then breaking down the rooftop tent at a time of lesser downpour.  We head back from Holden, ME to Ellsworth, ME to pick up Hwy-3 to bring us to Acadia N.P.  This time we can drive up to Cadillac Mountain, and even though the view was only about 15 miles due to the rain and fog, we were blown away - by winds of more than 20 mph.  Fighting our way back to the car we continue our loop around Mount Dessert Island and through Acadia N.P.  Rain continues to be on and off, but nonetheless we enjoy the beauty of the Island, the Coastline, and the architecture here.

We spend the rest of the afternoon in Bar Harbor, MDI - ME, or "Bah Habbah" as they say here, and warm up at one of the many coffee places, before treating ourselves to a delicious seafood dinner.

No words

After a restful night without rain we leave Bah Habbah and take the Acadia loop road to Otter Point on MDI.  We stop at the Thunder Hole to listen to the sounds and continue down the coast.  We move on to Otter Point and in the Otter Cove we see mountain climbers practicing rope works and harnessing.  Then we turn and head up leaving the park and MDI to pick up Hwy-1 again and move to Hancock, ME.  After a small loop around this peninsula we mover further toward Schoodic Point.  Unfortunately it starts to pour down on us that a visit to Ravens Nest is not for this time, and so we continue to our friends place in Gouldsboro, ME.  Meeting there Amy and Erin, two friends of them we six have a great evening, telling stories and sharing a nice dinner.  There is a lot to be said about having friends, and our coming together once again proves that distance and time apart really doesn't matter.

"Beautiful as they are, these tidal places are often moody and strange.  Sometimes you can feel the bittersweet tang of your mortality rubbing against a beachhead of infinity."  -  Christopher Camuto, American Nature writer, out of "Time and Tide in Acadia"
