Mile 3413

This morning we leave Cap-Chat, QC with blue skies and the sun glittering over the river.  I'm not sure if they still call it a river, as the other side is miles away and it feels more like an ocean than a river.  But whatever, we follow the river bank or Rt-132 further toward Marsoui, QC, with many waterfalls on our left, shedding their snow melts towards the river.  Some of those waterfalls are very impressive by height and quantity of water falling down, but we can't stop at every one.

Waterfalls along the way on Rt-132

So we stop for some lighthouses instead.

We continue Rt-132 into Forillon N.P. but are stopped directly behind the park entrance with a road closure.  We can make it up to Cap-de-Rosiers, QC, but the way to Cap-Bon-Ami is closed.  We try our luck at the South entrance, but also here the way to L'Anse-Aux-Amerindiens and further to Cap-Gaspe is closed.  So we drive further and make our lunch stop at the Penouille Visitor Center and hike that little trail instead.  Our way back we walk along the river bed to continue our new found hobby of collecting beach glass.

Once again we call it quit early today in Gaspe, QC.  The rest of the afternoon we spent with grocery shopping and planning the next days.

The Birthplace of Canada, Gaspe, QC

A little history:  On July 24th, 1534, French explorer Jaques Cartier, after loosing an anchor and halting in the bay during a storm, took possession of New France as he called it in the name of Francois I of France by planting his cross with the king's coat of arms and the sentence Vive le Roi de France on the O'Hara's Tip, the current site of the Birthplace of Canada, on the edge of the Gaspe Bay.
