Mile 2837

We explore a little this very interesting city of Quebec.  We drive with the car to the bridges at the St. Lawrence River and park the car.  From here we take our bicycles to the city.  Even though the weather is not of its best with intermediate showers and drizzle rain, interspersed with some sunshine, the bike path along the river to the city is everything you could ask for.  Dedicated lanes, good surface, lots of green and art installations along the way, parks, understands, seating areas, just beautiful.  And so is the city.  We explore the lower and upper part of the old city.  Unfortunately did the Funicular between Quartier Petit-Champlain and Dufferin Terrace not operate, so is was walking up the stairs to the Chateau Frontenac and the Citadelle of Quebec.

After some rain last night we wait in the morning sun until our roof tent has dried out and collapse it to drive to town.  Today we do the touristy stuff and take the hop-on, hop-off bus to drive us around the city.  At the Citadelle de Quebec we step off and get introduced into the history of the building which was built in its present from 1820 to 1850 by the British to defend against a possible attack by the 13 Union States.  This of course never happened and 1871 they handed the Citadelle over to the Canadian Government.  It's home today to the Royal 22nd Regiment.  We trace back to some sites we passed earlier with the bus, and make it back to camp site just before the rain starts to fall again.  A very wet night awaits us, and after a glass of good red wine we cuddle in our sleeping bags.
